Post Production Diary

After I finished writing my script, I started to record my narration. I did this by recording voice memos using the mic on my laptop while I had the script infant of my on my laptop's screen. I typed my script straight into Celtx. If I needed to rerecord a certain segment of my narration I could do that by pausing the recording, moving the pointer to where I wanted to start the rerecording and press the replace/record button. Once I finished recording my narrative I exported the voice over file into my downloads and imported it into my video editing software. Within my video editing software I could alter and cut parts of the audio as well as editing my video recordings. I use the video editing software Davinci Resolve to edit my images, videos, audio and text together to create my documentary. With this I can add text, credits, music, narration, sound effects and transitions.   A main problem that occurred with my audio recording was related to breath sounds, to fix this I ...

Sunderland Then Vs Now Draft 3

For this final draft, I added music over the top of the entire video. For this I chose music that was approbate from BenSound, which makes it copyright free. An error that I noticed when watching the first draft was that I had some clips missing half way through, where I had a voiceover in place but just a black screen to accompany it. Because of this I had to find new clips to out over the top.  Another part that I had to alter was a mistake that I made when talking about the Beatles visiting the Empire. Originally I had made a mistake in the narration by saying that the Beatles performed at the Empire on the "9th of February of 1963 and the 30th of February of the same year" when I was supposed to state that they played on the "9th of February of 1963 and the 30th of November of the same year." Instead of rerecording the whole line again, I simply recorded me saying the word November, cut out the word February from my VoiceOver and placed the new recording whe...

Sunderland Documentary Draft Two

After watching my original first draft myself and after getting the opinions of others, I realised that there was much more that I could add to my documentary to make it longer and more education for my audience. I used a survey to find out what more I could add that people would want to learn more about. For example, the coal mining industry was a big part of Sunderland and was a part that I had not yet talked about in my first draft. Vaux Brewery was another big business that was a Sunderland name that I had not yet touched on in my documentary. Finally I also added information about Hylton Castle.

Draft One Feedback

I created a survey after finishing my first documentary draft to figure out what I could add or change to improve my documentary.  I received five responses Out of the five responses, four said that they enjoyed watching my documentary with only one person being undecided, meaning overall my documentary was well liked and entertaining enough for my desired target audience. I proceeded to ask those who had watched my documentary what the liked about it, the main consensus was about how informative it was in an entertaining way. I also asked what critiques they had about my documentary, these included to add more information (as my documentary is still currently quite short and doesn't cover many topics) and to add music. They even gave me examples of more things that I could include such as more of the important industries that provided work for the people of Sunderland, for example the coal mines.
